Art allows pupils to apply their learning from all different areas of the curriculum in a practical and creative way. Often, children with SEND excel in these subjects due to their practical nature.

Review and Revisit
Small steps are planned carefully throughout a unit of work to enable children to build skills slowly. These are revisited at the beginning of each lesson. When creating their final piece, children are encouraged to look back at the skills and utilise the taught techniques. Sketch books can be used as visual reminder of the skills they have already learnt.
Vocabulary
New vocabulary is taught explicitly at the beginning of a lesson and children complete tasks which allow them to embed vocabulary and eventually use it in context. These can either be recorded or completed verbally. During practical activities, the new vocabulary is used in context to further embed the meaning.
Teacher Modelling
Techniques are modelled clearly throughout the lesson. Examples are given as a starting point and further supported by pictorial guidance where appropriate.
Time
Children are given enough time to complete a task and where necessary, extra time is given to allow children to finish.
