St. Mary the Virgin, Ovingham

Our Christian Values

Community

We are a friendly parish with a mission to share God’s love, grow together and enjoy our local community.

History

St Mary's church has a wonderfully rich and diverse history; our Saxon Tower stands in its commanding position on the north side of the Tyne Valley and has stood as beacon of Christian mission for over 1,000 years.

Rev Tom Birch

Our Priest in Charge is Rev Tom Birch, who was previously curate at St Nicholas in Gosforth. Father Tom and his family joined us on 18 September 2017 and shares his ministry with St Oswin, Wylam.

Fr. Tom attends Ovingham CE First School on a weekly basis, leading Collective Worship each Friday, and regularly supports RE lessons and the annual Y4 residential trip. He is a school Governor and often pops into school to see the children and staff.
